THE CHANGING ROLE OF THERMAL MANAGEMENT
During the last decades there have been large improvements in fuel consumption per passenger kilometer. To make further steps in engine efficiency two improvement areas are of key importance; the propulsive efficiency and thermal efficiency.
Next generation engines will include large bypass ratio’s and smaller, hotter engine cores to be able to make those steps (e.g. Ultra High By-pass Ratio engines).
INNOVATIVE THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS & COMPONENTS FOR HYBRID & ALL ELECTRIC PROPULSION
Senior Aerospace Bosman is taking steps in the development of innovative components for Thermal Management Systems that will enable hybrid and electric propulsion.
HIGH TEMPERATURE LIGHT WEIGHT MATERIALS
One important factor of the limit of the thermal efficiency is high temperature materials. Currently used exotic superalloys have a limit of withstanding loads at high to extreme temperatures.
Senior Aerospace Bosman has partnered with Arceon to develop light weight high temperature components for the aerospace industry by applying a novel process to manufacture Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) parts. CMC’s can withstand high loads and temperatures up to 2200 C⁰ (non-oxidizing atmosphere) and can be applied to multiple hot section components such as Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV’s), combustion liners, thermal protection systems, shrouds, bearings and more.
